BE PREPARED!!!
“The NAIC’s national survey revealed a significant lack of preparedness among consumers in documenting their belongings. Nearly half — 48 percent—said they did not have an inventory of their possessions. Of those consumers who reported having a checklist, 32 percent had not taken any pictures and 58 percent had no receipts validating the cost of their possessions”.
-National Association of Insurance Commissioners Website“A comprehensive list of your belongings and their value will help you file an insurance claim after a disaster,” said NAIC President and Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger. “Creating an inventory and storing it in a safe location away from home is one of the most basic — and most effective — disaster preparedness steps anyone can take to help protect themselves and their financial future.”

stolen. My name is Steve McCoy and I own a local insurance agency
called Slade & Collins Insurance. We have been in business since 1935
and we have had to witness the stress and anguish that goes along
with an insurance claim after a fire or theft. Not only do they have
to deal with the loss of their home and what to do next, but they also
have to try to compile a list of what they lost. It would take someone
countless hours to rebuild a list of their belongings at an already
stressful time and then hope they do not forget something. Having a
prepared inventory of your belongings or business equipment would
reduce a little stress from the situation and also insure that you do not forget something important. We encourage all our customers to
consider this option and use the services provided by Asset Guardian”.

“If we did not get our home inventory done by Asset Guardian, then we would have never known that we were underinsured”. Asset Guardian provided us with an approximate amount of assets in our home and they checked it against our insurance policy. We discovered that we were underinsured. Also, Asset Guardian delivered a copy our inventory to our insurance agent free of charge. Thanks Asset Guardian!”

“I have owned a very profitable business for over 20 years. I understood the value of having an inventory, but could never find the time to do it. Asset Guardian came into my business and conducted an extensive inventory of my assets. They reviewed my insurance policy and met with my agent. I never realized how all my assets (computers, equipment, machines, etc.) had added up over the years. Asset Guardian discovered that my policy would not cover all my assets in case of a loss. The money I spent on the inventory was one of the smartest investments I could ever make. Thanks Asset Guardian!!”

“Four years ago I received an awful call that my house was on fire. I could not believe my eyes after the firemen left. Just about half my house was gone and the rest was damaged by smoke and water. My insurance company was helpful but when they asked me to list all my possessions for the claim, well I was just overwhelmed. I wanted to settle quickly but the stress was just too much. I wanted to get it over with so I hurried and did the best I could. Every day I would think of something else that had been destroyed but after the claim was settled it’s too late. You are not going to remember everything and that cost me thousands. A home inventory would have saved me time and a great deal of money. Believe me when I say, don’t wait. It’s not worth it. I wish I had known about Asset Guardian!”

“While away on vacation, we suffered a devastating water leak which kept water in most of our 5 bedroom house. The water was literally pouring out of the front door and garage when we returned home. The water damage was extensive as the water had seeped into the walls and almost all of the walls in the house had to be gutted. While trying to salvage the house, the emergency team removed the walls, carpets, rugs and cabinetry to drain the water and removed all of the drapes, furniture, and furnishings. Anything that could be saved was removed off-site to be dried. However, anything that was on the floors or sat in the water such as computers, furniture, clothes, etc had to be thrown out to minimize mold exposure. As a result, we lost a lot of our furniture, beddings, clothes, shoes and important papers and documents. Although, we had a video of what our home looked like before the flood, it was not enough to document all of the detailed work necessary to reconstruct the loss for insurance purposes. It was a very difficult task to remember where and when items were purchased, what the original purchase prices for just about everything in the house when we no longer had the paperwork for it. Without an inventory, it was easy to miss many items which we did not report because we either forgot about the items or could not prove up the original cost. Having everything inventoried before disaster strikes would have brought us peace of mind during a difficult time. I would highly recommend an inventory process that records and documents what you own before a loss”.

"I recently filed an insurance claim due to my house catching on fire.
The whole insurance process was very time consuming and stressful. The
insurance company requested a list of everything in my house for my claim.
I had not completed a home inventory and trying to remember all my
possessions and assets was impossible. I am sure I lost money by not
having a home inventory. I only wished I had knew that Asset Guardian
performed this service".
